On Thursday 26 September, Techleap.nl joined the Brightlands Startup League event which was organised by Brightlands, LIOF, Maastricht University and Provincie Limburg.

Techleap.nl envoy Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau called upon all ecosystem parties to remove barriers for startups and help them scale as efficiently as possible.

Next followed a Tech Transfer Masterclass by Peter Maarten Westerhout, Arjan Goudsblom and Christian van der Woude. There they showed that scaling deep tech from scientific innovation to impact is a long, bumpy road. Many choices have to be made in the early phases, which have a huge impact on scalability later on.

They shared three points that create a good foundation for valorisation:

  • Making sure to adopt a standardized version of dealterms
  • Providing sufficient long-term risk capital for deeptech innovations, especially for first-of-a-kind facilities.
  • Stimulating a career pathway in academia to become an entrepreneur.

With events such as this at the Brightlands campus, Techleap wants to make founders, investors and supporters aware of what awaits them and provide guidance on how to deal with that.
