Policy document

Agreements between knowledge institutions and spinouts are decisive for the chances of a startup translating science into impact. However, reaching good agreements is often not easy due to the differing interests of various stakeholders.

This document aims to collect all guiding principles relevant to one or more stakeholder groups, which are used to reach agreements between knowledge institutions and startups that emerge from research and/or initiated by academic staff.

Consequently, the aim is not just to collect the guiding principles that all stakeholder groups agree upon. Such a consensus is not necessary because all stakeholder groups are “right” from their own perspective.

The Science to Impact initiative offers guidance throughout this process. A special workgroup made up of experts from the national Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) consultation and Techleap.nl has been established for this purpose. People from all relevant stakeholder groups have been asked to supplement this workgroup’s input either jointly or individually.
